Induction & basic self defence course

The main aim of the induction / basic self-defence course is to teach the basic principles of Krav Maga and the Israeli Martial Arts. The course will benefit greatly new students to the Krav Maga system and also any person, male or female, who simply requires a one-off course in self-defence so that they may ultimately be able to overcome any serious street assault.
The induction course teaches defences against all manner of attacks and threats from all around the body and commences with what is termed in Krav Maga as a working warm up where we teach attendees the fundamental and practical skills of fighting and striking. These skills include being able to strike effectively and powerfully using hand, elbow, knee and kick combinations whilst at the same time retaining the ability to move and to observe in all directions. From here the course develops and we look at the problems and solutions associated with defence against soft grabs (non dangerous attacks) hard grabs and punches (dangerous attacks) and chokes (deadly style attacks). Often in the street environment we don't have time to decide if the attack is dangerous or deadly so inline with Krav Maga principles we'll put great emphasis on teaching you to react instantly to all threats and to apply techniques that work in real life. From here the course expands and we look into the problems faced when we're attacked with knifes and other such weapons. Again we'll teach you how to react instantly and how to escape or if there are no quick exits then we'll teach you the principles involved in seeking to control and to secure. Finally the session ends when we bring all of the above together and expand it to include multiple attackers.

KMSD Seminars
Kapap I

In this seminar we look at the basics of Kapap and see how the Military system has been adapted for Civilian and/or Law Enforcement use. The first lesson teaches you the techniques used to drop or take out a sentry. Your taught how to open up an attacker, how to draw them off balance and then how to take them down. Expanding on this we will then teach you how to apply these Kapap techniques to any given situation such as defending against a punch or grab. For students who study more basic forms of Krav Maga and other martial arts these lessons will be invaluable and will teach you how to finish and further enhance your own techniques. After this we introduce methods of control via pain compliance techniques and how to apply disabling chokes.
In the final part of the seminar we look at and train the basics of knife on knife, we do this because at KMSD we believe that in order to defend against a knife attack you have to be able to attack with a knife. Then once you understand and appreciate the tactics employed by specialist, we'll get rid of your knife and start to teach you how to defend with just your hands. Finally and to see how all of this works we'll end the session with a few stress games to prove everything we teach is fitting to real life scenarios.

Kapap II

This Kapap seminar starts in much the same way as Kapap I by re-establishing the basic masking and takedown techniques used throughout Kapap and adopted by Krav Maga practitioners everywhere. Moving forwards from this we'll then teach you the gyroscope or windmill technique and you'll learn to how to apply this technique when dealing with a grab so as to understand the basic principles of balance and movement. From here you'll use all of tech above techniques in defence of more forceful street style attacks such as punches and even knife attacks, where we add either distraction techniques or more orthodox counter attacks so as to further confuse/disorientate the attacker. Following on from this we'll examine in more details some of the distraction techniques and preemptive nerve strikes employed by the Kapap system and we'll show you how these techniques can be used by individuals who wish to escape a would-be violent encounter or even by special forces operating as a snatch squad.
In the second part of this seminar we'll look at firearms, namely small arms and as with all our Kapap seminars our first teachings will instruct you on the basics of how to use the weapon and more importantly when dealing with disarms how to retain it. Our philosophy at KMSD is quiet simple, if you ever wish to take a gun from someone then you need to know how they may retain it. While some systems, even Krav Maga systems seem to forget these teachings we rate them as our most important and as such you will then be able to apply these principles against all threats of violence. Finally and as with all our seminars we'll end the session with a few heightened awareness games to prove everything we teach is fitting to real life scenarios.

3rd party & VIP protection

Ok, so we're not talking about defending the Prime Minster here but we are talking about defending your VIPS, be them your family, your friends or your work collogues. You may be the best martial arts expert in the world but defending a partner or associate is something entirely different. Not only do you have to work out and accept the risks to yourself but you laos have to consider and accept the risks that your actions may have on the VIP. With this in mind the first thing we're going to teach you is how to asses the treat. Once you have assessed it and once you have come to terms with your worse case and best case scenarios you'll be better able to fully commit to the task which faces you.
Initially the seminar deals with movements and re-directing a VIP away from a incoming attack. We'll tech you how to put yourself between the VIP and the attacker so you can physically block or counter them. We'll teach you basic techniques for when you need to rescue someone from a fight or brawl so you don't become entailed yourself. From here we look at weapon threats against a VIP, maybe a knife to their throat or a gun to their head. Given time we'll also look at some team work drills.

Dealing with knife attacks

The main aim of this seminar is to cover attacks with knives and other sharp objects but of course we can also use these same techniques and principles against unarmed attackers too.
The seminar teaches students techniques which will allow them to successfully defend themselves against the ever increasing risk that more and more people are now carrying knifes and such like objects. All styles of knife defence are covered including; defence against Overhead knife attack, Oriental knife attack, Slash attacks & Straight knife attacks from all distances and angles to the body and face. Attendees will also be instructed in how to defend these styles of attacks from all positions including standing, sitting and whilst on the ground from the view point of fast retreat and later controlling the attacker.

Knife on knife fighting

So you think you can defend hands only against a true knife attacker? Well before you make that statement you should consider there are many differences between how a street thug may attack us with a knife and how a trained knife fighter will attack and despatch us. This seminar starts by teaching us the basics of knife fighting along with the more advanced techniques of opening up a defender and overcoming their defences. It covers areas such as types of knives, methods of holding a knife, knife stance, angles of attack, areas of attack, type of attack, movement (advancement, retreat, circular), attacking techniques, defensive techniques, knife drills and lots more.
Please note: because of the topics covered in this seminar we reserve the right to restrict who is able to attend. If you have attended previous seminars and training sessions with us then it shouldn't be a problem to attend this seminar. If however we have not met you before then we reserve the right to decline your booking. For more information e-mail us.

Israeli Point Shooting & Firearms

When it comes to firearms the general 6 principles of disarming are clear enough, What isn't so clear however is what your going to do with the firearm once you have it. In this seminar we'll teach you how to utilize and understand the weapon. How to aim it and shoot it the Israeli way and how to fix it when it fails. Firearms are mechanical instruments and in order to fire one you need to know the mechanics of the weapon, how to load it, cock it, apply safety's, unload and clear a jam. By gaining this knowledge, the reverse affect will also apply in that it teaches us how to effectively cause a weapon to malfunction while disarming an attacker.
Please note this seminar is conducted using the latest 6mm Gas Operated Blow-Back pistols and as such no firearms certification is required.
Course length 4 hours, Price £39.00 (cost includes use of firearm, ammunition and all other equipment needed) Just bring yourself.

Defence against weapon threats
What would you do if an attacker put a knife to your throat and told you to do something? In the UK the official line is that you should cooperate fully and give the attacker what they want. This is fine if they just want your wallet or your phone but in Israel they sometimes have a different approach. If a suicide attacker walks into a restaurant and threatens to blow themselves up then handing over your phone or wallet just isn't going to be enough.
So OK, were not looking at suicide bombers here but the threat is no less real. What would you do if an attacker asked you for something you couldn't give?! In this seminar we look at the problems associated not only with weapon threats but also general threats of attack. You will learn how to assess the threat, weigh up your options and perform defensive techniques that will allow you to overcome any attacker. The seminar starts by looking and considering the problems faced with verbal threats, we'll consider our options for dealing with an aggressor based on our situation, the distances between us and the type of body and verbal language their using. Then we expand beyond the threat to where it turns nasty, where a physical defence against a punch or kick is needed. Once we have these principles instilled we'll look at applying them to threats which involve a weapon such as a hand gun or knife and if time allows also against multiple attackers.

Stick on stick
In this seminar we cover everything from stick fighting to stick defence. In the first part of the seminar the stick is used purely for defensive purposes, we look at how the stick can be used as a blocking, restraining or leverage tool and even how to retain the stick when someone attempts to take it from us. Then we progress to consider the stick as a fighting tool, one on one. We consider types of sticks (length etc), methods of holding the stick, stance, angles of attack, areas of attack, type of attack, movement (advancement, retreat, circular), attacking techniques, defensive techniques, drills and lots more.
